TRANSIENCE OF MATERIALITY
Acrylic, structural acrylic paste, Croatian kuna coins on canvas Triptych 90 x 40 cm 2023.
The painting is about the way in which materiality is presented in today's society. In a world where money is increasingly given importance and almost as if it is the most important thing we can own. But it is forgotten that every coin or paper cash is actually a small object whose value is constantly changing. It is used to obtain resources, but when the currency changes, the old coins can become even more valuable than they were or go into oblivion altogether. Unfortunately, time spares no one, and the meaning of everything changes at breakneck speed, so we have to ask ourselves if the rapid development of technology is always in line with the well-being of man and nature. Each point on the timeline is connected to any other before or after it, although it may not be obvious at first glance. We can look at the past as a dark period full of conflict and lack of security, but excessive materialism can also look like a kind of fortress, albeit with a beautiful appearance and tempting offers. But at the end of the day it can be the same thing as closed thick walls. Speaking of beauty, the coins are decorated with motifs of various plants and animals that people supposedly admire, but at the same time they are exploited to the maximum. An animal motif on a piece of metal is valued more than a living being in nature. Changing the currency and the appearance of money is considered a tragedy, and the extinction of a species is just an unfortunate accident. Nature has existed for a long period of time, long before our glorification of materialism, but unfortunately it is not known how it will fight against our kitsch. Once the last piece of nature is destroyed, all our vast amount of gold will not save us. The gigantic field of various possibilities that we have walked or are about to walk into, provides more than enough opportunities for harmony and peace, and it is up to us whether we will lend a hand or continue to elevate ourselves exclusively. Before the clock strikes midnight or the last grain of sand escapes us.
Abundance, acrylic paint and clay on a wooden board, 2022.
Imagine a world ruled by untouched nature and magic. All the colors are really vibrant, perfect for feeding the imagination. Creativity is more than welcome. The buildings are located exclusively on the flying islands so that the soil remains completely preserved. There is also never a shortage of resources; fresh air, clean water and rich plants are always in abundance. This is just a first step of our journey, come join us!
The vein of the city, oil on canvas, 2023.
The painting speaks of the general disconnection of people.
Even in the most crowded places we sometimes feel like we are so far away from everyone else and we grow colder. It's interesting how everyone lives in their own box, which is physically so close to others, and yet has no connection. Looking at the city lights, each sparkling point is someone's whole world, where they do their own thing in their own space.
In this unnatural world, the only thing that seems to connect us are those giant concrete roads that at the same time fragment the world into tiny spaces. So you're standing at a crossroads, how do you know where to go?
I believe that for the people who are real in our lives, we will find the right way to reach them. And luckily, when our point of light merges with theirs, we create a brighter and larger spot on the black surface.
